wtnv log: 2022
Mar. 20th, 2022 04:39 pmMandatory note: I'm not actually caught up… nor am I not not caught up either, by dint of the extremely slapdash way in which I listen to Night Vale episodes these days (or, as I put to
cortue, the non-scientific method of hopping backwards a couple episodes from the present until I hit upon a sufficiently intriguing one to start from).
I am vaguely aware of the ongoing arc though! And since it's conveniently February i.e. the start of this year's run, that's an easy pick for a starting point at least.
201 - The Delivery Man: Pretty classic standalone episode! With a peppering of the Bigger Plot, which I didn't fully absorb (having listened to it while working) and am therefore now reading the transcript for. Favourite quote: I think I can fix things with words, but sometimes words only make it worse. I should listen more. I told Carlos that. And he was very forgiving. I don’t deserve him sometimes, and right now, I feel even more insecure. Of course I deserve him. We all get what we deserve after all.
202 - The Day After the Day: The beloved (literal) return of Valentine's Day… and a strangely familiar audio puzzle LOL. Basically all fun segments today, which is great. Also, nice weather vibes! With a smiley face. Favourite quote: To the disappointment of your insufferable writer friends, there is no em dash. + ETA post-director's notes: Alright, so I didn't consciously realise the comparison until seeing the notes, but Valentine's Day as a metaphor for the pandemic is… pretty close, yeah. Also on a barely-related note, the header image for the WTNV Patreon page continues to be magically enchanting as ever.
203 – The Kareem Nazari Show: Subheading, the triumphant return of the Michigan brick joke. No Cecil, but I do enjoy a good fourth-wall take on Night Vale weirdness! Nice chill weather! And also what felt like a sort-of-acknowledgement of what it means to keep engaging in fandom even as the world does its level best to fall down around us. Favourite quote: You also didn’t ask me my name, Kareem. Don’t you usually ask your callers that?

Date: 2022-02-17 01:48 pm (UTC)a good enough place to start as any!
Yup – I think they're plenty enjoyable by themselves even without the preceding context! Hope you have a good listen then <3

Date: 2022-02-17 01:54 pm (UTC)This seems to be a common sentiment of early-era WTNV fans, haha – I fell off listening consistently somewhere around year 3ish but it's always fun to check in from time to time. And I suppose that really shows that it's something special, to still have that attachment after all this time!
Hopefully you enjoy if you do find time to listen then! Even without the full ongoing context these episodes should stand pretty well alone, I think.
