the "how is it already mid-may??" update

But first, the performance that has been single-handedly getting me through the past two weeks:
So good. So infinitely loopable.
Anyway. Unordered fandom-and-adjacent list:
- Finished my 520 exchange fic just in time! For a given definition of the word, in that it is complete but I'd still like to add a few paragraphs to round out the corners if brain permits, which is a chancy prospect.
- Casually watching TLTR with a generous amount of skipping (I am considerably No at horror-type suspense vibes and also the pacing in this show needs a pacemaker of its own) while sending
elenothar unhelpful observations about Wu Xie and literal debugging. (He's definitely got a point about hugging pillars, though.) Also I suspect this is the kind of thing which I'd enjoy (even?) more in book form, but we are, ha ha, not touching that with the ten-foot pole that is my lack of attention span.
- Note to self: watch the Pokemon anime more often, it's good brain-empty fun.
- As with a definite large fraction of my Tumblr dashboard, I'm also subbed to Dracula Daily but see above note re: attention span, so mostly I'm just absorbing it secondhand via textposts and memes. There are worse rides to be on.
- Also participating in a NIF group read (well, reread for me, aside from the revised starting chapters since I went with the original ones last time). Doom, thy shadow is long.
- Words cannot adequately express the extent of both my (a) LOL-ness at 2/4 things mentioned above being Chinese-media-I-am-consuming-in-Chinese (I say this often but it's still true, seeing as I spent most of my life convinced that my use for anything aside from conversational usage would end with graduation) and (b) fizzy-brain pleasedness at having the correct language set to consume the things I'm interested in more-or-less in the original (kind of self-selecting by nature, but still – awfully convenient, good job past!me).
- The 生米 mood of the moment is knowing he's on 2 ongoing shows (天赐 and now 奔跑吧) and literally not having the brain for more than clips + photos but being delighted anyway. I'm definitely gonna miss it when 天赐 is over and with it my stream of weekly new performances and vlogs, he spoils us with this content.
- Work exigencies are… still doing their thing, but at least in a less-unreasonable timeline, which is probably as good as it can get right now given the external situation. Also I go travelling in three weeks during which I plan to be utterly uncontactable for work, so that's a nice milestone to pin the last shreds of my task-oriented ability to can on.
- Looking back on the sort-of goals list from Snowflake and I think I'm making decent progress based on recent conversations with The Bosses…?
- On the I-deserve-to-have-nice-things front, got myself a pretty nice smartwatch which can fit on my wrist for once! Unrelated: so glad we as a society(?) are past having analog clocks as the default(??), because I Cannot Read those things for the life of me.
- Cleared out my sister's half of the room (considerably overdue; she's moved out for months now) so I finally get my own room and there's so much space. (Very relatively speaking.) I'm not one for posters on the wall anyway but thinky thoughts about what other nice things to get (probable priority list: wireless speaker, some kind of organisation for my cables/electronics, and possibly a proper work chair if HR decides to continue hybrid arrangements, why is this list so utilitarian I have no personality).

Date: 2022-05-16 03:16 pm (UTC)LOL I'm watching Ultimate Note right now and one of the first things I noted was how good the pacing was. Reboot's pace is such a mess.

Date: 2022-05-23 01:17 am (UTC)XD I've made my fair share of "eh" noises at various shows (see: how nearly anything with a long flashback arc automatically loses me as a viewer) but Reboot's pacing manages to be actively terrible and I'm not even sure?? how??

Date: 2022-05-16 03:34 pm (UTC)I've given up and accepted that I'm going to at least sort of watch the show it's from, even though it's absolutely entirely unsubbed and I can't catch, like, anything actually being said? xD But I like music shows that are theoretically framed around competition but are really just showcase events. And it's fun to watch regardless.
Congrats on getting the 520 day fic done in time! Good luck about those last few paragraphs, too!

Date: 2022-05-23 01:23 am (UTC)My attention span hasn't gotten itself together enough for me to watch anything beyond episode 1 but I do quite like the format, yes! There's also the occasional difference in opinion between the singers themselves and the technical judges, partly due to different priorities despite both sides being in the industry, so that's interesting. Hopefully it does get subbed at some point…

Date: 2022-05-16 09:04 pm (UTC)I'm very much enjoying all and sundry unhelpful observations on Wu Xie and the pace-maker needing show (no one could deny it, that show is very pacing whomst)

Date: 2022-06-03 04:26 pm (UTC)…I may or may not have read an entire bunch of chapters while stuck on the train since writing this post XD they're definitely fairly fun reading, even if the humour is occasionally a bit sideways to my preferences.

a. The only explanation for anything in TLTR is "we felt like doing it that way," I think, pacing included (I'm the only person I've yet encountered who actually likes the Warehouse 11 arc).
b. Would read the unhelpful observations about Wu Xie and debugging!
c. Re Wu Xie hugging pillars, do you know this fic?
Glad to hear work is even slightly less unreasonable, here's to the countdown to time off traveling. 一直身体保重!

Date: 2022-05-23 11:49 am (UTC)1311 arc too. But it needs more Xiaoge. The whole series needs more Xiaoge.no subject
Date: 2022-06-03 04:32 pm (UTC)I think I do like Warehouse 11, just more as a concept than the actual execution of the arc XD either that, or The Bosses Being Annoying is entirely too much an IRL-relatable thing for me right now, heh…
Re Wu Xie hugging pillars, do you know this fic?
I hadn't seen it, but oooh I like that!!

Date: 2022-05-22 12:24 pm (UTC)Muahahaha, also the writing is spectacularly bad in an "i'm a dude writing about cool things" way. (Or so I've heard. I'm not going near them with a ten-foot pole either.)

Yeah, I'm mostly bugged by the fact that most nice chairs are wheelies, and I like wheelies in the office but!! I don't have carpets at home!! Hard flooring was not meant for wheels!! /facepalm
